We're all wondering how Joss Whedon's recently announced move to Montreal is going to affect the television industry here. Is Mutant Enemy pulling up stakes entirely, or will they retain some presence in L.A.? If Joss moves, does that mean employment opportunities for all our writers, or will killer talents like Jane Espenson and Marti Noxon and Tim Minear flood the market? I hope not.
I was kind of surprised at the announcement, though one has been hearing rumors. Joss will probably have more control over his shows up here, given the level of government support. Obviously he's been freaking out a bit over the
Angel cancellation, and
Firefly and all that. It'll be interesting to see how he adapts to the culture here. And the winter.

Okay, where did you hear about that? If true, and I hope so, will we get to see more Wheadonesque show up here? A Canadian version of Buffy or Angel? ;-)
Wow, in the last few years we've actually been getting quality sci-fi. First the Collector, now Charlie Jade (from what I've seen it looks immpressive) and now Joss is coming up!
Yeah, I believe Canada is alot better about giving showrunners control over their shows. Alex, could you include a section about Canadian TV writing (like the business and how it differs from the U.S.)? That would be great, I'd buy it!
Actually Wry Writer, there was a canadian version of angel (sort of...) it was called Forever Knight, check it out on tvtome. Funny thing is that it was made long before Angel... :p
Ummm ... April Fools!
When the hell did they announce this? You mean, when I move back to Ottawa, I have to compete with THAT sunabitch for TV money?
Arrrrrrrrr ....
damn... ya got me alex! :p
hmmm...I had to go waste a perfectly serious comment... ha ha
Not to sound like a Joss stalker, but, he went to Wesleyan, in Middletown, CT -- he's probably fairly experienced with harsh winters, at least enough so it won't be a total shock.
Good for you. That's cool. I love stories about production leaving L.A. Gives those of us who'd like to leave L.A. someday hope.
Speaking of which -- can anyone tell me more about the supposed production facility opening in Norwich, CT? My mother just told me about this. She said "some big producer or company" is building a studio/theme park. This boggles me. It must be related to the casinos, but I'm not sure how.
Thanks,
Kristen
