What I'm reading now -- at least, what I have out from the library and/or on my bathroom bookshelf...

Rubicon, a history of the last years of the Roman Republic. This is the book they based the miniseries (which I didn't see) on. Geez, their politicians would feel right at home in Washington, and it's not 'cause the architecture's the same. 'Cause, well, 'cause I like history. It's so much less painful than contemporary events.

Beauty Tips from Moose Jaw by Will Ferguson. So I can learn how to be more Canadian.

Introduction à l'ancien français, Chrestomathie du Moyen Age, Les Troubadours, L'Occitan Sans Peine: all research. I need to reconstruct about 20 lines of Old Occitàn, believe it or not, for my last screenplay.

A Fire Upon the Deep by Vernor Vinge. 'Cause I liked A Deepness in the sky so much. There is so not a movie here, but what the hell.

Sandman: La Saison des Brumes by Neil Gaiman. Reading it in French 'cause that's what was in the library. The library being, of course, the Bibliothèque Nationale de Québec. This time I'm looking at the artwork more. As they say in Cape Town: hectic.

What are you reading right now? (And just because you started Finnegan's Wake 20 years ago and gave up doesn't mean you're still "reading" it.)

I signed off of my blog and just on a lark hit the button to view the next blog, and here you are. I like your blog - it is well written.

I am reading at this very moment... The Old Farmer's Almanac (2006) as I love it and grew up with it - my grandparents were rural Pennsylvania farmers and always had this for every year. It also has tonnes of astronomy information such as best viewing and I have a very strong relationship with my telescope.

I am also reading "Extreme Weather" by Christopher C. Burt, "The Great Mortality" by John Kelly (all about the history of the Black Death), and "13" by Nathaniel Lachenmeyer, about the superstitions surrounding the number 13. I love history and the derivation of things, too.

I am reading a couple of books as well but they are not in front of me, so I don't want to guess at the names and authors. I'm unemployed right now, so I have a lot of time to fill and this helps. This and riding as a volunteer EMT every weekday aside from my normal once-weekly 12-hour night shift.

And you are the writer for "Naked Josh" - I am impressed! We watch it here in New Jersey. It's very good, quite interesting and funny. Certainly a far cry from what is on the regular channels. Most half-hour sitcoms are utter junk. Yours is not typical - bravo!

I'm reading The Uses of Enchantment, by Bruno Bettelheim, and jolly good it is too. And the Rough Guide to Prague, because if I sell a film script this year, that's where I want to go to celebrate.

I'm reading "Henry's List of Wrongs" by John Scott Shepherd. It's a great read is structured very much like a film.

Also, "Gnome There Was" by Henry Kuttner (Lewis Padgett). An amazing collection of sci-fi short stories that goes against the grain of traditional sci-fi - My fave so far: "Mimsy Were The Borogoves".

And, on issue 5 of "GIRLS", a comic book by the Luna Brothers.

I am reading "Marvel Essential Defenders Vol. 1" on my bedside table, "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Houseini downstairs, "Royal Assassin" by Robin Hobb on the potty, "The Church of the Divine Psychopath" by my pal Scott Phillips in my leather bag that I carry around in case I need something to read when I'm stuck somewhere, and listening to "The Best Revenge" by Steven White on audiotape during my commute.
