It would be crazy to buy a brand new Intel Core Duo-sporting 2GHz+ MacBook entirely so I can waste time playing Civilization 4. Wouldn't it? Spend money to be able to waste huge amounts of time playing an addictive game? That's like buying a brand new car so you can drive to the pusher. Isn't it?

I have the same weakness for Civilization. I can't keep it on my computer.

I woudn't buy Civilization 4 unless I was retired and had nothing else to do.

Hmm.

Pros: Video games rule. They are fun. You only live once, why not enjoy it?

Cons: When work and play are done using the same computer, almost a guarantee that little work will get done.

Verdict: I say go for it. But I'm on here reading blogs instead of working, so my opinion can't be trusted.
