The Emmy noms are out:
Best drama: Big Love, Breaking Bad, Damages, Dexter, Lost, House, Mad Men
Best Comedy: Entourage, Family Guy, Flight on the Conchords, How I Met Your Mother, The Office, 30 Rock, Weeds
Best Drama Writing: four (four!) MAD MEN scripts and one LOST.
Best Comedy Writing: four (four!) 30 ROCK scripts and one FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS
If you're wondering what to spec, it probably can't hurt to spec something with an Emmy nom. That's what network execs and showrunners are watching, in all likelihood. If it's been cancelled, of course, don't spec it.
Complete noms here.
No FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS? Really? No BATTLESTAR?

I'm surprised by the drama noms. I assumed that True Blood would show up because Anna Paquin won a Golden Globe earlier this year.
I just wrote a Damages spec that im going to rewrite later this summer...so i'm pretty happy it got nominated.
If Lost wins the Best Drama Writing category, they should feel pretty good about it.
Sorely missed: THE WIRE.
I wonder if BSG's only airing 10 episodes in the last two calendar years hurt its chances. (I think that stat is right.) Of course, there's the anti-sci-fi groupthink.
*10 episodes per year
I just don't get Mad Men. I tried, I got bored. Are they handing out candy at the end or something?
The office should have gotten nominated for best writing. Some of their best episodes have been this year, and even though 30 Rock is funny, 4 noms is a little ridiculous.
Even though Big Bang Theory didn't get a show nod, it is ridiculously popular, and I think if you can write a spec of that, go for it.
Gotta think the Dexter show nom is retroactive - the writing really sucked this season. Too bad Tara and True Blood didn't get more recognition.
