The thing that strikes me about the time compression of advances is that every technological step seems to empower the individual even more. The upside of that is obvious, but the downside is a little terrifying.
If a bomb throwing anarchist in the 19th century could kill ten people with his black powder based bomb and a 20th century terrorist could kill thousands with a jet airliner, what will the disgruntled and disaffected be able to do in the 21st century?
