As you may recall, UPS tried to charge me customs of $57.00 on a shipment worth $85 weighing a couple of ounces, which is not liable for duty. About $12 of that is VAT, the rest is one b.s. charge or another.
Amazingly, since I refused the shipment, they are now planning to charge the shipper, who is getting his own merchandise back. Otherwise they will destroy the shipment. Thus making it impossible to get the shipment resent to New York, say.
Please, everybody, DO NOT USE UPS. They are greedy, greedy, greedy. Use the Post Office or Fedex.
Hell, that does not even sound legal... I am sure it is, but it sure doesn't sound like it on the face of it. I am sure there are disclaimers in abundance with "handling fee" mentioned or something similar....but bloody hell, you are 100% correct they are bastards.
Thanks for cluing me into this. I won't use UPS.
Have you seen -The Corporation-?
The pendulum will swing back our way, we just have to give it a push.
How about DHL? I thought they were the new boys on the block
DHL is excellent for sending packages, though I'm not sure how the service is when sending across the border, I've only used it within Canada.
DHL bought Loomis, so they're not really that new.
UPS sucks bananas in Canada. Shipping to the US with them is okay, but not vice versa. I was dumb enough to move 20 boxes from Toronto to San Fran with them (and then back).
