We watched an episode of Grey's that made no sense at all. Izzie was sort-of sitting shiva, and someone came in with a tree in his stomach, and someone had lung cancer, and then all of a sudden various people were quarantined for plague, and at the end of it Derek and Addison broke up... wtf? Did BellExpressVu scramble two eps together? I can't make sense of it even with the help of TV.com.

It sounds like you guys, like everyone else in Canada who watched or recorded the "season premiere" on CTV, actually watched episode 2 of this season. CTV screwed up and aired the wrong episode that night.

The real premiere was on a different feed right afterwards... I had the bizarre experience that night of going back in time (seeing Addison find the panties, etc.).

In the States, after an elementary screwup as bad as that, I'm guessing a bunch of people would be considering their employment options about now. But I bet CTV doesn't fire anybody.

That's definitely a mix of the first two episodes, not just the second episode. Izzy laying on the floor, with everyone talking about shiva, along with all the quarantine stuff, was from the first episode. The tree, lung cancer, and the break-up was from the second.
