If nobody knew anything before, they know even less now. The one sure thing is that moviemakers will now PAY to get their films released. The few remaining distributors can sit back and wait for movies to drop in their laps, often with P & A funds attached. All hopes of a hot sale at a festivals were dashed this year.Er, that's not good.

I personally think this old model of "indie" is dead. A new indie model is rising.
And seriously, if you can raise P&A money - what the hell do you need a distributor for? You can negotiate deals directly with theater chains and even book theaters AFTER people have already purchased tickets.

Doesn't this suggest that these movies aren't very good? For most other types of products, it's usually a pretty bad sign when you have to pay people to take your stuff...
This worries me too. Reading the article, though, the films that did make it to Toronto already came a long way. If they have that sort of momentum, echoing Cunningham, they probably could work the distribution themselves.
