Dubious Morality Meets Dubious Morality
And while we're at it, what do you think of this strategy? Apparently some audience members have been buying tickets for other movies and then going to see Apocalypto, thus seeing the movie while not contributing to the gross.

Hypocritical. If you don't want to contribute to Gibson's success, don't see the movie. If you want to see the movie, take ownership of that desire and see the bloody movie. Take a stand or don't, but you can't have it both ways.
And I suspect he's not the only raging racist making movies in Hollywood. I don't think it's a bad thing to take the position that there's a distinction between the film and the filmmaker and to judge the former, not the latter. I don't have to think Polanski is a guy I'd like to have tea with to appreciate The Pianist.
I don't think I've bought a ticket for one movie and seen another since I was a teenager. We did that a lot to get into movies that were R-rated. And we also bought one ticket and saw two or three movies in a row for cost cutting measures (gotta stretch that allowance).
It can't be that prevalent a phenomenon to really throw the box office out of whack any more than the teenager syndrome I describe above does.
