Wow. Just wow.

I had the misfortune to buy a certain number of points on Xbox LIVE in order to buy software. Imagine my surprise when I realized they were billing me $10.15 a month on top of the charge for the points! I pointed out to Microsoft, and then my bank, that I did not authorize a "subscription" of any kind. But I am told that somewhere in the fine print, there is a clause that says, "We can sign you up for anything we like, and if you dispute it, we will keep your money." Or something more or less to that effect.

If anyone out there wants an excuse to pirate Microsoft Office, I hereby give you my blessing.

  1. I had the same issue last spring with mlb.com. And it's not as much an issue with the suppliers as Canadian banks.

Used to be Visa would contact you to authorize these kind of payments or simply reverse them if their customer had a problem.

But now they work hand in hand with the corporations to automatically keep you on the hook unless the corporation has a change of heart.

Despite what's said in commercials you are far less important to credit card companies than the places where you buys stuff.

MLB was kind enough to see the error of their ways and I'm sure Microsoft doesn't need a blogger with your reach reminding people how insensitive they can be.
