How Can I Read the Script

Q. Do you know where I could get my hands on a copy of the script to [snip], for an assignment? I've searched everywhere on the internet, but I can't find a thing.

What I would do is: see who got the screenwriting credit for the script; call the WGA to find out who their current agent is; call their agent and explain that you're a student and you'd like to read the script.

If you're in LA, you could also check out the Writers Guild Foundation Shavelson-Webb Library at 7000 W. Third St. They've got a honking lot of scripts.

The Blacklist for Download

The 2011 Blacklist is available for download here. Link said it was legit, but who knows if it's true, so download'em before they're gone.

The Blacklist is the year's best unproduced scripts, according to a select list of execs. Forget the Nicholls. This is a script competition you can't even get into unless someone loves your script already.

Oscar Scripts!

You can download a slew of Oscar scripts from Ropes of Silicon, including MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE and BRIDESMAIDS. I wonder what was improv'd and what wasn't? I know what I'm reading this weekend.

Studios Be Touchy

Fox sued an aspiring screenwriter and part-time flower seller for $12 million for uploading 80 screenplays which were already available online.

They finally dropped the suit. But be careful out there, people. If they're going after the flower girls, no one is safe.

Space Wheat... Space Barley

Yet another in a series of early, truly terrible, bad versions of THE STAR WARS, by George Lucas. This one is a treatment.

No robots. No Force. But it actually got sillier before STAR WARS [IV] got better.

As someone pointed out, you can see where the sequels came from.

William Goldman's Captain Marvel Script

According to BOING BOING, you can download William Goldman's script for New Line's Captain Marvel project at MyPDFScripts.com, "which also features a ton of other unproduced screenplay, including Oliver Stone's take on Alfred Bester's THE DEMOLISHED MAN and Nick Cave's GLADIATOR 2". Check it out.

Dark Knight Script

Warner Bros has been kind enough to post the entire script to THE DARK KNIGHT. (Warning: PDF.) I guess they were hoping for a Writer's Guild Award.

West Wing Transcripts

Some clever person seems to have put all the transcripts of THE WEST WING up on the Web. Transcripts, not scripts, but still, that is some fine writing there.

Swapping Script

I've been looking for a long time for somewhere online for people who have produced scripts to trade with each other for speccing purposes. I still haven't found one, so I just started one. It's Script Exchange. I hope it works!

Lemme know how that works out!

I'll ask some of the shows I've worked on if this is cool. Bear in mind none of the scripts I've written for TV are solely my own work. Everything I wrote for NAKED JOSH had the heavy involvement of my co-creator and my producer. Everything I wrote on CHARLIE JADE was trying to follow Bob's vision. So I don't feel creative ownership of the scripts. If God willing the show I'm writing now goes, I'll eventually post some of my scripts.

They Have a Nice Stone Circle, There

Lee Thomson, in his latest post for THE LIGHT, IT HURTS, gathers together a bunch of dandy script links to things like FIREFLY, and WONDERFALLS, and Tim Minear's now-defunct new project DRIVE.

And I notice that he lives in Chipping Norton, an adorable medieval market town just outside Oxford, where they have a very cool stone circle just by the side of the road, in a corn field. England is like that: throw a rock, and you'll hit something old. Actually, the rock you're throwing is probably something old.
