Best Canadian Feature Comedy Directors?

A producer asked me for some names for a comedy script of mine that he's interested in. Aside from, y'know, Eric Canuel, who are the best Canadian feature comedy directors, do you think?

O Hive Mind, Do You Like Your Prius?

We are very close to buying a Prius. We drove a nice 2008 just now.

But the acceleration is, well, not so much.

Dim Being Very Dim

I have practically my whole loft on dimmers, which creates a very nice effect. The LA Times claims::

If you dim a halogen bulb to 50%, you will save over 40% energy and your light bulb can last more than 10 years.

My understanding was that dimmers work by increasing resistance along the line. So you simply heat up your dimmer, using exactly as much energy as if you let all the power flow to the bulb. But now the Wikipedia claims that "modern dimmers are silicon-controlled rectifiers" which, I think, switch power on and off, thus wasting no power. (But is that true of house dimmers?)

O Hive Mind, do you know the correct answer?

Incidentally, I've tried the new "dimmable" compact flourescents. They do dim somewhat. But they don't dim all the way. You can get them down to, oh, 50% of the maximum output. If you're trying to create a mood, 50% just feels like you have a couple of bulbs out. You really need the halogens; they go down almost all the way.

Canadian Politics Sites?

I'm writing a thriller set in the exciting world of Canadian politics. 

(Now that's not something you hear often.)

It's a little unfamiliar to me. The topic of the day on the Conservative Party's website is how we need better product labelling. 

I'm way too familiar with leftie American political websites like Huffington Post, Daily Kos, FiveThirtyEight. Crafty readers: what are the best rightie Canadian political websites? (And by best: intelligent, thoughtful, not mindlessly repeating talking points.)

Does anyone know where I can legally download the first two episodes of JEKYLL? I missed them on Showcase.

UPDATE: They have been recently released on DVD. It appears that you can rent them from Zip (and, I assume, NetFlix).

What Was That Movie...?

I'm watching La Grande Séduction, an utterly charming Québecois movie about a small town that must persuade a doctor to come and stay in order to get a factory that will save them from oblivion.

It's the sort of movie that isn't a brilliantly new idea, but is done with heart and charm and lovely characters. Québec seems to make a lot of successful movies like these. You couldn't accuse Les Boys of being a particularly original sports movie. Horloge Biologique showed three guys freaking out about their girlfriends' fertility -- nothing super new there. It's all in the execution. And the execution here is lovely.

But it's bugging me, O Hive Mind, that I can't remember the movie from the 80's where some Tom Hanks-like executive who works for some Gregory Peck-like rich guy is scouting a small town because he wants to buy it to build a factory there is planning to install some kind of factory that will destroy a small Scottish fishing town, and he comes, and the village charms him, and the magnate decides not to build the factory, and the exec decides to settle down in the town...?

Dimmable compact flourescents?

I see that Australia has just passed legislation to ban sales of incandescent bulbs. Pretty cool for the environment. A bit scary for me because I have the entire loft on dimmers. Help me, hive mind: are there dimmable compact flourescents? Do they really work when dimmed? How can I tell the difference between them and the kind that start flaking out whenever the voltage (or is it amperage?) drops?
