Funny that Bob Shrum should go out of his way to point this out now, a year after getting his ass handed to him (yet again) in a presidential election. Maybe the next Dem. candidate can pay him *not* to consult in the 2008 race.
It's remarkable how both Republicans and Democrats treat the Bush - Kerry election as a crushing defeat. It was pretty close, as I recall. About a hundred thousand voters in Ohio made the difference. If there hadn't been fourteen hour long lines in all the university towns and African American districts, courtesy of the Republican Secretary of State, it might have gone quite differently. When you have to steal two elections in a row, it's not much of a mandate.
You know, if you had a huge mandate, and managed to screw it up so badly that it's tattered and your man's at 38 percent one year later -- in which case your stewardship of the nation is actually worse than it looks like.
Or you never had the mandate you claimed to have in the first place. those really are the only two interpretations, neither of them makes the GOP look too good.
I guess there's a third: the Liberal media, right?
What a joke. Bring on those damn indictments, fast.
