Now that staffing season is just about over (a few weeks left to run), you'll want to start thinking about your next spec. Fortunately the TV season is almost over, too, so you know where the shows' timelines are.
Ah, if only I could spec
Slings and Arrows. It's finally on Showcase (I refuse to shell out for The Movie Network), and I have a new favorite show to watch. Really clever, true and funny. (In the States you can watch it on The Sundance Channel.)
Well, guyz, what
are you speccing? And what have you heard are the shows to spec? I want names, people!

Half hour - peole are doing 'my name is earl,' but the market is theoretically flooded. ditto with 'the office.' i like the odds of 'how i met your mother.' also, maybe, 'entourage' if you can hit it out of the park. For the hour - 'boston legal,' baby. and don't even think 'grey's.' no, i said don't think about it - how many people are speccing this thing? who is going to want to read yours once you finish? and can it maintain it's heat?
thoughts? suggestions?

Just for shits and giggles I want to spec a BSG. I know that supposedly this would only get me scifi work, but my gut says if you nail one of these, you can nail the military drama of a Unit...
That's what BSG is - a military drama that just happens to take place in outer space.
Yeah, everybody and their mom is doing an Earl spec. I'm adding myself to that list, just because I'm actually from Earl country, so I figure I'll at least nailt he dialogue.
Funny though, with all this good TV out there there's so little that can be doen on spec because of the way the storylines feed off each other.
I think House is still the best hour-long drama for a spec. The formula permutates, but doesn't change. Supernatural's good too.
As I'm heading into spec monkey territory for the first time (aside from the ones I did in school) I'm writing a Rescue Me right now while a House script percolates next in the queue.
If my sister wasn't a doctor, I wouldn't even have dared to try House.
i would argue that staffing season is, in a way, just beginning?
i mean the ground work started as early as late march, and all the exec meetings have happened.. but the real craziness will actually begin right after upfronts and continue til late may/early june.
am i mistaken?
